Million dollar plus home with massive problems!
Even a high-priced, luxurious home can be a potential disaster. The Vice President of a Fortune 100 company exercised a great deal of caution in his purchase of a home, and sought a thorough inspection of the one he finally decided to buy. After spending $3,000 on stucco inspections, termite inspections, and basic home inspections -- all of which the home passed -- he completed the purchase. His peace of mind might have turned into an unbelievable headache if not for his next course of action.
Before he actually moved into the house, he wished to do some renovation work. This was fortunate, because the contractor he hired discovered some potential problems while making an assessment of the property. The contractor recommended that this homeowner call MoistureVision to inspect the home one last time before beginning the work, to make certain that there was no damage to the home that would need to be repaired. The homeowner contacted MoistureVision, and this proved to be an extremely wise choice.
When MoistureVision inspected the house in April 1998, they determined after only five minutes that they had an emergency on their hands. The house was plagued with massive problems, making it completely unsafe for anyone to live there.
Among other serious safety issues, they found extensive termite damage to the major support beams in the house. The termites had eaten away so much of the beams that the house was on the verge of collapse. It had an out-of-control water leakage problem, resulting in massive flooding throughout the entire house during a rain shower. If the bathtub had been used just once, it would have fallen through the floor!
Needless to say, the homeowner could not move into his new home. Over half a million dollars in repairs were required -- nearly rivaling the actual purchase price of the house itself. For eleven months, major structural repair work was performed, at one point requiring the engineers to bring in steel and concrete to keep the building from crumbling.
Remarkably, the house was able to be saved. Had this dedicated homeowner not made the right decisions, he would have put his safety in jeopardy--and at best, would have been stuck with a wasted investment.
