What does MoistureVision do?

MoistureVision has a patented process for detecting the extent and source of moisture. By pinpointing the exact source of the moisture, we can save our customers thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs.

What type of process do you use?

We use a unique proprietary combination of technologies, such as electromagnetic spectroscopy to track minute amounts of liquid water, and phase Doppler particle analysis to track moisture in the vapor state. We also use our patent pending moisture luminescence process to view and track the source of the moisture. Our process is non-invasive and non-disruptive. We can find the moisture behind walls, inside the structure, and in other hidden places that is otherwise undetectable without the aid of our sophisticated equipment. Our patent pending Doppler laser technology locates hidden building defects that are often the source of the problem that allows moisture intrusion.

How does your process differ from other companies?

Our patented process performs with greater accuracy in pinpointing the extent and source of the problem. This is because we can scan every square foot of the building surface. Other companies typically use moisture meters that intrusively probe selected points where moisture is suspected which limits accuracy to the number of intrusive samples taken. Our comprehensive process reaches wall interiors and places other methods cannot and we can track the actual moisture path. This means that in places where there is condensation, mold, or other evidence of moisture, we can trace it back to the root of the problem. No other company has the proprietary, patented process for doing this type of tracing accurately.

What is so important about detecting the source of the problem?

In our experience, 90% of all moisture intrusion problems are misdiagnosed. Knowing the source of the problem saves our customers thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs by pinpointing where and what needs to be repaired. This eliminates the guesswork, saving customers money and time. Not to mention that the quicker you identify and repair the source, the sooner symptoms such as leakage and mold go away.

If I've got a small moisture problem, wouldn't it be more cost effective if I waited to see if it becomes more extensive?

No. We could have saved some customers hundreds of thousands of dollars had they called us sooner. Moisture is not normal and has come from somewhere. It doesn't get better, it only worsens. And by waiting, you risk more extensive damage as well as developing an environment conducive to mold and fungi infiltration.

How much damage can moisture cause?

Each year moisture causes more damage in structures than the damage caused by fires and termites combined.

Typically, how long will it take from the time you start a structure until the source of the moisture is identified?

We use a team of technicians who can usually scan a school in two to three days.

Can I use my building while you're working?

Yes, in most cases we can work around daytime occupancy. Our processes are non-intrusive and permit normal school and work routines.

Can you tell me how to fix the problem?

MoistureVision can tell you the source of the problem and we can often make recommendations on how to go about making needed repairs. Our specialty is to diagnose the problem - leaving the repair to the other experts. However, we do offer a service that will quickly eradicate mold, but unless the source of the problem is fixed, the mold will eventually return.

Can you get rid of my mold?

Possibly. The mold issue often disappears when the actual moisture source is corrected. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), "There is no practical way to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment; the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture." If the mold is a result of the moisture that we are contracted to identify, and the appropriate remedies are undertaken, the mold can then successfully be remedied. At the conclusion of repairs, MoistureVision will verify that the moisture has indeed been eradicated.

Is exposure to mold really a health risk?

There is evidence from studies by the Mayo clinic that links over 90% of all sinus problems to the inhalation of mold and fungi. If you are having symptoms that are caused by mold exposure and the mold and fungi are eradicated, then the building would no longer be a health hazard for you.

Where can I get more information on the health risks associated with air quality and mold?

The EPA web site contains information on indoor air quality and its relationship to mold and health problems here.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) web site has a publication on airborne health hazards.

The National Indoor Air Quality Institute web site has information on mold and indoor air quality and publishes a guide for builders and contractors available at www.niaqi.com.
